About six months after introducing what could be the first locally developed agentic AI platform for general practice clinics in Australia, a Sydney-based health technology company is preparing for a nationwide rollout.
With a goal to power "superintelligent healthcare providers," Care GP plans to deploy its agentic AI system across 7,000 GP clinics nationwide and add 600 new customers by year end, with the fastest uptake recorded in New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland.
"Maintaining service quality as we grow is key, so we're investing heavily in support and success teams to make onboarding seamless for every clinic," founder and CEO Melvin Chen told Mobihealth News.
"Reaching profitability within six months has given us a strong foundation to scale responsibly. We're reinvesting directly into R&D, infrastructure, and customer experience to maintain product reliability while expanding nationally."
Care GP has over 150 GP clinics currently using its platform for processing and allocating medical documents automatically. From recent pilots and clinical data analysis, the company reported that clinics saved an average of 4.3 hours in administrative time each day when using its platform. This baseline was established through time studies conducted in close collaboration with partner clinics.
Partner clinics, according to Chen, also "consistently report higher accuracy and fewer errors compared with manual entry." Through Samantha, its first AI agent, overall workflow consistency and document allocation accuracy are tracked, while human oversight is maintained for any exceptions to ensure safety and oversight.
Several additional AI agents are in development to handle phone calls (Veronica), manage emails (Corina), automate billing (Bill), support marketing (Max) and referral workflows (Rachel), and enable secure health information exchange (Sarah). "Each addresses a major administrative bottleneck within GP operations, expanding the time savings and productivity benefits across the clinic," Chen said.
At this point, the company is solely focused on local expansion. "While we are not actively pursuing international expansion at this stage, we have received strong expressions of interest and early engagement from several overseas practice management software providers," the company CEO disclosed. Potential opportunities may come from New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Care GP also does not plan any funding rounds or strategic investment partnerships for now. "We'll consider external funding or partnerships only if they help us accelerate growth without compromising sustainability or customer trust," said Chen.
Currently, the Care GP platform is fully integrated with Best Practice, connected via secure APIs and middleware, with integration with MedicalDirector underway.
The platform also complies with Australian data privacy principles and healthcare data standards. "The platform is designed with privacy-by-design principles, and all data is stored and processed in Australia. We use AES-256 encryption in transit and at rest, secure access controls, and hold Level 3 Gold Cybercert certification from Cerber Security Certification Australia," Chen expounded.
THE LARGER TREND
Agentic AI, systems that can initiate tasks and decide on their own without constant human oversight, has been gaining ground in health systems across the Asia-Pacific. In August, Singapore's Health Sciences Authority approved the first agentic AI-powered scribe for use in healthcare settings. Earlier in May, the country's national health tech agency, Synapxe, disclosed that it has been exploring the use of agentic AI to enhance decision-making processes.
In Pakistan, the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council is also testing agentic AI to accelerate nurses' training amid growing demand for skilled nurses and midwives.
ON THE RECORD
"Before using Care GP, our team spent hours every day managing documents and routine admin tasks. Since adopting the platform, we've seen a huge difference; it saves several hours daily and has made our workflows far more efficient. That extra time lets our staff focus more on supporting clinicians and providing better care for patients," Jonathan Lee, owner of Maxim Family Medical, a private GP clinic in New South Wales, said about Care GP in an interview with this publication.
